Numeracy

Is your little one omitting number(s) out whilst counting or having reversals with numbers?

My child is able to tell the difference between patterns and punctuations but how is it that he/she confuses between (+) and (-) signs and uses them wrongly?

One day she gets it correct and another day she gets the same question wrong. Sometimes she gets higher mathematic questions correct and sometimes the simplest addition question is awkwardly miscalculated. Is my daughter doing this on purpose?

My son has consistently done poorly in pre-school for mathematics. He is in primary 4 now and aces all his subjects but scores below average for his mathematics. He seems to have admirable intelligence but why is unable to solve a simple multiplication question? I’m worried for his PSLE!

My daughter is 18 years old. She is an avid reader and writes creative stories. Her overall academic performance is always below average because of her incompetence in mathematics. We have enrolled her into various different Math tuitions with skilful teachers but why is she struggling with grasping mathematic concepts?

Do these scenarios ring a bell to you?

Finding it hard to understand why or what is hindering your child from understanding Math phrases, Math signs, and basic Math concepts? - A difficulty in comprehending concepts related to numbers is not a sign of low intelligence. Every child has a different learning style and phase. All your child need is a Multisensory approach to understanding Math.

Math disorder? Mathematics learning disability? Dyscalculia? What might my child be facing?

Dyscalculia, also known as a “Math disorder” or “Mathematics learning disability” is a common learning issue that impacts your child’s ability to do math. However, it doesn’t just affect them at school. These challenges can also create difficulties in daily life such as and not limiting to telling the time or directions and working with money. Dyscalculia is a brain related condition and research has proven that early detection and frequent cognitive exercises and games targeting numeric language in the brain can help to regulate understanding and application of numerical concepts.

What is Multisensory Math teaching in Assumption Learning?

Our Numeracy program targets the underlying cognitive skills needed to efficiently and effectively grasp mathematical concepts, solve problems, and perform mathematical calculations. Our numeracy exercise comprises of both academic and non-academic drills focused on promoting numerical fluency.

We train your numerical fluency and executive functioning skills through a variety of increasingly challenging drills that gradually increases in complexities targeting core cognitive components of math performance:

  • Inductive Reasoning Skills

  • Sequential Reasoning

  • Math Comprehension

  • Memory

  • Number Strategy

  • Attention

  • Visual Processing
