What is Autism?

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability which impairs a person’s ability to connect with the world and relate to others. This causes an individual to have behavioural issues and face communication challenges in his or her daily life. Diagnosis from DSM-IV such as Asperger’s Syndrome, Autistic Disorder, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), and Pervasive Developmental Disorders (not otherwise specified) are now all included within the umbrella of ASD under DSM-5.

Help for Autism and other Syndrome

In 2016, one in 150 children in Singapore was diagnosed with autism.
There were 4,400 such children in 2014, a 76 percent jump from the 2,500 children in 2010.

Autism can differ widely from people depending on the severity of the individual’s condition. Early intervention and treatment helps the children to function and acquire better life skills in coping with the world’s demand. Some may require listening therapy or even speech therapy, while others may have to go through sensory processing therapy. Guidance will be given to parents for children with diet, learning and behavioural challenges.

More often, people diagnosed with ASD may display repeated behaviour and demonstrate rigidness in their everyday life.

Treatment Brings Hope

At Assumption Learning, we believe that children should grow naturally just like trees. Trees require nourishment like water, sunlight, fertiliser, love and care to grow. Same goes for children, as they need to achieve age-appropriate milestones such as Movement, Sensory, Emotions, Speech, Cognition to grow. As such, to help children with any form of impeded growth, we need to work on their underlying issues - which is also the root of the problem. Just like a tree, if they are well-nourished and fertilised from their roots, he or she can grow holistically in the most natural possible way. As such, our Treatment Plan adopts a holistic approach to help your child grow through different milestones of their life.
