Clinical Assessment for Children

PRE & POST EVALUATION

What is our test about?

In Assumption Learning, our pre and post evaluation test kit is a set of screening tools designed specifically to identify any skill inadequacy and/or area of strengths of an individual. Upon post-evaluation, comparisons are made to note the effectiveness of training and individual’s progress.

Why test for cognitive skills?

Our cognitive skills assessment tests an individual’s 6 core cognitive components (Processing speed, Visual processing, Working memory, Reading skills, Auditory processing skills, and Logic). These 6 core cognitive skills have been identified to be essential skills needed for decision making, thought processing, and learning. The test will determine the appropriate training an individual will require and Brain Training exercises will be designed and delivered accordingly.

  • Processing speed

The assessment tests how quick an individual processes visual information, makes sense of the given information and responds to it. The amount of time an individual takes to complete a given task is greatly dependant on this skill.

  • Visual processing

The assessment tests how quick an individual comprehends and manipulates given information and shown images. A problem with visual processing does not indicate a problem with eyesight. Visual processing disorders affects the ability of the brain to process the visual and symbolic world and this can potentially impair an individual’s learning ability. This skill is highly important for Mathematics, Composition, and Comprehension.

  • Working memory (Auditory memory and Visual memory)

The assessment tests an individual’s ability to hold information before manipulating it. An individual’s memory skills goes beyond academic requirements, it is are essential for daily life reasoning and could possibly affect behaviour too.

  • Reading skills

The assessment tests an individual’s reading abilities and their natural competency for it.

  • Auditory processing

The assessment tests how aptly an individual differentiates sounds in a word and remember the order of the sounds. Auditory processing disorders are caused when the ear and brain do not coordinate timely to make sense of hearing. This is also an underlying root cause for speech and language delays as well as attention issues in school.

  • Logic

The assessment comprises a series of sequential steps that requires an individual to make connection through problem solving. The assessment is aimed at testing an individual’s logical thinking through information analysis and logical flow. Logical thinking is an indispensable skill needed for Mathematics, Composition writing and, most importantly, problem solving in daily life.

Assessment reports and progress evaluation

If any cognitive skill is rated unacceptable, learning will be impaired. Our assessment reports are based on percentile scores deriving from peer evaluation and peer average scores. Scores derived from peer assessment simply means the comparison of an individual’s results against the median of age equivalent scores. The scores are an accurate measurement of standard performance and each individual’s progress will be aimed at reaching at or beyond this percentile expectation.

Any skill identified as inadequate by our test will be strengthened making it possible for the individual to efficiently take in, process, store and retrieve information more effectively. All pre and post assessment reports will be interpreted along with suitable program suggestions and treatment plans.
