A Holistic And Adaptable Treatment Plan For Your Child? Find Out How Assumption Learning’s Treatment Plan Can Benefit Your Child As Compared To A Programme!

No two children are the same. Every child has his or her unique strengths and challenges even though they may have the same diagnosis. This is why we strongly believe that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to treatment and intervention. At Assumption Learning, we only tailor-make treatment plans that are suited to your child’s specific needs.

In Assumption Learning, our goal is to help your child grow in the long run, and not just improve. When a treatment plan is designed, the treatment becomes a holistic approach in assisting your child to smoothly advance from one milestone to another. In particular, our treatment plan adapts to the needs of your child’s progress in rewiring their neurological pathways due to genetic constraints.

A classic example is speech development. Our treatment plan will consider the condition of your child and target the underlying issues he or she has. With a holistic curriculum under our treatment plan, the different protocols can run concurrently or sequentially depending on your child’s situation. As compared to enrolling in Behavioural Therapy to address his or her social skills and on the other hand, struggling to work on Speech Therapy for speech delays, our treatment plan can help to bring about the natural growth of his or her milestones. Through such sequential procedures, we can assess your child at different phases and tweak the treatment plan to suit his or her needs accordingly.

At Assumption Learning, our Treatment Plan comprises of 3 areas:

  • Centre-based therapy work

  • Home-based work for caregivers to understand the needs of the child. Also, to carry out simple therapy work that curbs your child’s behaviours, promote social skills & teach them daily living skills

  • School-based strategy for teachers or parents to help the child learn & adapt in school better.

Growing in its Natural Form

We believe that children are like trees. Trees require nourishment like water, sunlight, fertiliser, love and care to grow. Same goes for children, as they need to achieve age-appropriate milestones such as Movement, Sensory, Emotions, Speech, Cognition to grow. As such, to help children with any form of impeded growth, we need to work on their underlying issues - which is also the root of the problem. Just like a tree, if they are well-nourished and fertilised from their roots, he or she can grow holistically in the most natural possible way.

At Assumption Learning, we like to think of each milestone as a branch on the tree. As your child continues to progress from one milestone to another, certain branches may get ‘stuck’ or have difficulties growing to their best potential.

In this scenario where the branches don’t grow that well, it is necessary that we “fertilise” and direct more attention to them. This implies that the child grows and develops not just from therapy, but also the school and the environment. Therapy becomes a key engine that drives and pushes everything to grow in its natural form, paving the right path for your child to achieve the appropriate milestones smoothly.

With early intervention, your child can then achieve the milestones at different ages. This tweaks their growth pattern to somewhat closer to that of a normal child, though at a slightly slower pace.

Treatment that fills the Milestone Gaps

In order to help you understand why a treatment plan is more beneficial for your child and how important it is to start treatment early; here is a diagram to illustrate the difference between a child with normal growth versus a child with impeded growth.

*The data and the number of years indicated below may not be an accurate reflection of a special needs kid as their struggles vary widely.

0 to 3 years old (Phase 1)

Your child is growing at the highest rate as it is the period of incredible growth and development. This is the best period to identify any issue and seek treatment as results will be optimal.

3 to 6 years old (Phase 2)

Your child is still growing significantly, but slightly slower than the period in Phase 1. Gross motor development; for example, jumping, climbing, are evident in this period. If this milestone is missed, it will cause more behavioural issues in the later phases. However, it is still not too late to seek treatment as the child is still growing and adapting.

6 to 9 years old (Phase 3)

This is where behavioural issues start to appear and it will take more effort to address these issues. Parents will have to adopt a more suitable style to curb and adjust your child’s behaviour.

9 to 12 years old (Phase 4)

Any form of learning difficulties becomes more evident and by then, more effort is required to rectify these issues during therapy. Some issues may not be rectifiable but can only be toned down. Similar to phase 3, it is important that parents need to adopt a suitable parenting style that can work for your child.

12 to 15 years old (Phase 5)

The growth rate is at a minimal level. Habits are formed, characters have emerged and it will require more intensive therapy to adjust your child’s condition. This being the case, when your child enrols in our treatment plan, you will not only work to resolve issues that have already surfaced but also work to reduce or avoid any upcoming issues. More importantly, instead of being helpless and lost, we want to assure you a well-prepared and secured journey, where you will be confident of your child’s growth and future. Our treatment plan will help your child fill in the milestone gaps that he or she might have missed.

Conclusion

When a child enrols in a certain programme such as Speech Therapy, they can or may eventually speak but this does not mean that they can grasp a concept well, or even write a piece of composition. Speaking and communicating are completely different. Similarly, communicating and writing also requires different skills. Many parents often draw conclusions that when their child overcomes his or her speech issues, he or she will naturally be able to read, write or even study. This may not always be the case. However, when a child enrols in a treatment plan, you are not just working on a specific weakness, but rather a holistic outcome of what your child should or can potentially be. Instead of embarking on programmes, our Assumption Learning Treatment Plan is a holistic approach to help your child grow through different milestones of their life.

A Treatment Plan gets your child to GROW, but a programme only helps your child to IMPROVE.
